Volunteer with GSC at the UIC Pop-Up Pantry! Heading link

Register for the volunteer event using the QR Code!

The mission of the UIC Pop-Up Pantry is to exclusively serve registered UIC students who are experiencing food insecurity while attending the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).  The mission of the Pop-Up Pantry is to support academic success and student development by supporting students who may be facing personal and/or financial hardship.  It is especially important that during college years, all students have access to a steady supply of nutritious food. Research shows that proper nutrition is critical for cognitive function and memory. This means that every meal is a bridge to academic success.

Check out their website: https://wellnesscenter.uic.edu/pop-up-pantry/

Thus, in the spirit of the holidays, the Graduate Student Council wants to give back to the UIC community by volunteering at the UIC Pop-Up Pantry.

This event will be held on November 22nd at the UIC Pop-Up Pantry in Student Center East (Suite 238 750 S Halsted Street Chicago, IL 60607). We will be volunteering from 9-11am and 11-1pm.

Please RSVP and select the time slot that works the best for you!

Yoga with GSC! October 26, 2022 6-7pm Heading link

When: Wednesday October 26, from 6-7pm  Where: Student fitness Center    All details can be found on the attached flyer! If interested, you will need to RSVP to the yoga event - you can do so with this link: https://uic.campuslabs.com/engage/event/8509220

As we know Grad school can be stressful with TA-ships, RA-ships, classes, and personal lives! Yoga is a fun way to practice mindfulness allowing you to become more aware of your thoughts, feelings, and body sensations so that instead of being overwhelmed, you are better able to manage them. Practicing yoga has various benefits including stress management and regulating sleep cycles!

“Relax and Restore” uses a series of vinyasas to help participants link breath to movement for a restorative yet challenging practice. Some sequences inspired by Air and Water put together by our instructor are fun because they incorporate a lot of (gentle) backbends and twists, which are great for undoing some of the habits we all get into like being hunched over a computer for hours everyday.

Our Yoga Instructor: Em Hall
Em Hall is a certified yoga instructor, having completed her 200 hour training with YogaFit in 2021.  She focuses on creating inclusive and welcoming spaces for beginners and experienced yogis alike in her classes.  In addition to yoga, Em teaches indoor cycling, coaches F45 classes, and is a personal trainer at UIC, where she’s getting a PhD in Urban Planning. When not working on her dissertation, you can find Em watching Law & Order and teaching her old cats new tricks.

When: Wednesday October 26, from 6-7pm
Where: Student fitness Center
All details can be found on the attached flyer! If interested, you will need to RSVP to the yoga event – you can do so with this link: https://uic.campuslabs.com/engage/event/8509220
